Founded in 1981, The Humanities Exchange is a non-profit organization that serves as a advisory and source of information on international exhibition exchange and facilitates the touring of exhibitions among museums in Europe, Asia, Canada and the United States.
As an international organization, it assists a worldwide audience of museums, art centers, universities, libraries, corporations, foundations and other cultural organizations in North America, Europe and Asia. . The fields of interest include the visual arts, history, science -- all of the humanities disciplines, and it crosses mediums, and disciplines, from art history, decorative arts, theater, literature, photography, and film. . The Exchange's activities are focused in two primary areas:
Exhibitions:
To advise and work with museums in Canada, Europe, and the United States in coordinating and presenting touring exhibitions and encouraging exhibition exchange around the world. Our primary mission has been to encourage the exchange and touring of exhibitions between institutions that do not have established government or diplomatic avenues for such projects. We encourage direct collaborations between museums -- a museum-to-museum approach with person-to-person communication between museum colleagues who wish to exchange ideas and establish partnerships and collaborations with their foreign counterparts. We have gained extensive experience in bridging the cultural differences between museums and in successfully coordinating projects in international exchange.
Through a large network of specialists of all types around the world, we have been able to assist museums and museum people to carry out special projects unique to them -- whether it is exhibition organization, catalogue design, educational programming, facility management, or marketing and promotional expertise.
Our network of advisors has coordinated the tour of over 30 international exhibitions during the past 15 years.

Publications:
To assist museums and cultural institutions by providing information on available exhibitions and on organizing exhibitions, through regular publications both in printed or computer disk format. Since 1990, we have published the annual Guide to Organizers of Traveling Exhibitions, which describes the programs and specialities of the myriad of organizations that are creating and circulating exhibitions.
