Advising and Liaison

Our Mission

Part of our mission is to advise and consult with public and private institutions and individuals, and to act as a liaison in the coordination of high quality exhibitions for tour to non-profit cultural and educational institutions.

A primary interest of the Humanities Exchange is to respond to the new needs of museums that have grown as a result of the rapid transformation of society -- in helping them to cope with their changing audiences, the escalating financial pressures of organizing exhibitions, and the proliferation of new information and techniques of presenting exhibitions and reaching audiences.

The Humanities Exchange is not a travel exhibition service. Instead we act in an advisory capacity, and as a liaison to assist in facilitating all of the details of organizing a traveling exhibitions.

The Director of The Humanities Exchange, Shirley Reiff Howarth, is an art historian, and former museum director and curator who has worked with museums for over 35 years.

Some of our responsibilities have included:

Negotiating the loan contracts with the participating institutions.
Act as a liaison between the lending and borrowing institutions to answer questions and inquiries, respond to problems, etc.

Arrange and monitor transport arrangements in Europe and North America.
Assist and advise host institutions on advance publicity, verify exhibition credit lines.
